My husband needs a new hip...and this is what I am doing to make sure it happens!

So, this is my husband (almost 8 years ago!)!

This is what has happened to our lives since.
This is what my husband needs (a new hip).

These are the little cuties that we have been entrusted with (whom I would not trade for anything in the whole WORLD!) which has made it difficult for us to have the resources needed to replace Rob's hip.

This is what I am going to do to make sure we have the resources to replace his hip and give my sweet husband back his life.

The full story--

My husband has had serious problems with his hips his whole life. Back when he was a teenager the doctors told him he needed to replace his hip but he wanted to wait as long as he could to do that surgery. You can only replace your hip so many times and they only last so long so we were trying to wait as long as possible to do his surgery.

However, the past two years his hip has steadily gotten worse and worse until now we are at the point where everyday things cause him excruciating pain. Driving a car, mowing the lawn, playing with the girls, and a whole host of other seemingly normal everyday activities cause him so much pain sometimes he can't walk the next day. He also can't do many things he loves doing like playing sports, running, and doing fun things with our kids.

So, the time has come. We do have insurance but our out of pocket expenses are still going to be substantial as well as AT LEAST 4 weeks recovery time before he will be able to go back to work.

Watching your spouse in pain is extremely difficult and I am so tired of seeing him suffer every single day. He has stood by and supported me and I am determined to do the same for him and give us the resources needed to have his surgery by the end of the year.

I am blessed to to have three of the cutest little people on earth whom I spend my days (and unfortunately sometimes long nights) with so I had to get creative. So this is what I am going to do to give my husband back his life.

Preston finally arrived!

Less fancy pictures of the arrival of the little dude!

Grandpa Randy (aka the newborn whisperer!)
Grandma Carol (aka Ella whisperer) Ella would not come within 15 feet of me in the hospital and her sad crying face in this picture resulted from Grandma trying to get her to come see me.
My goal for 39 hours "GET THIS BABY OUT OF ME!"
I wanted the classic cute picture...me on the hospital bed holding my new baby with my other two babies sitting by me.....yeah right! This is as good as it gets. Ella clinging to Grandma and crying in the corner as far away from me as possible.

Such a sweet lil' boy

Here are some pictures of my lil' guy. These first few are from when he was 11 days old!

He is such a sweet little guy. He likes being held. He is a good eater for the most part and actually sleeps---neither of my other newborns did either of those things. He has me wrapped around his little fingers. I am so glad for him in my life and am trying to enjoy every minute with him since this could be my last newborn baby.
These are all from the hospital when he was like 10 hours old.

"The Story"

I am recording this birth story mostly for my own benefit to remember this experience!

The few days leading up to induction I was feeling nervous. Anxious. And I couldn't pinpoint an exact reason. I just knew that I was nervous for the labor and delivery of this little guy. When I told Rob I was nervous he listed concerns far past labor and delivery like having three kids to take care of, how is Ella going to react, etc. My concerns were much more immediate. What is going to happen to get this guy here?

The few hours leading up to going to the hospital felt like an eternity but then we arrived, got checked in, into a gown, and the first round of induction gels began. She said it would take hours for me to start feeling strong contractions so Rob actually went back home to sleep for a few hours.

Everything from there on out was severely complicated because of one word---polyhydromnios. Excess amniotic fluid. And is it turns out a severe amount of excess fluid.

They could not keep a heartrate on the baby in the womb the whole labor because of the excess fluid. There was a nurse in my room every 10 minutes trying to keep his heartbeat on the monitors.

Then the next morning we start pitocin. Then after 6 excrutiating hours of contractions about every minute finally an epidural. The next few hours of epidural rocked my universe---in a good way. Then, it slowly starts to fade in its effectiveness.

We hit being in the hospital for 24 hours and were nowhere near having a baby. I was still at a 1, despite contracting every minute or two consistently for 14+ hours at this point. Another long excrutiating night. Another night of sending Rob home to sleep.

Finally Sunday morning at 6am, 35 hours after checking in my water broke but the baby was still high. He had not dropped because of the excess fluid.  Still having contractions every minute or two. Feeling more and more pain as time goes on. Called Rob who didn't answer his phone. Had to call my mom and he came running back to the hospital like the baby was on the way out. After he got there and calmed down, he fell back asleep on the couch for a few more hours....despite me crying out in pain and agony as I had virtually no pain medication at this point and had been in labor for 36+ hours.

Finally, I am screaming in agony and decided Rob needed to be awake to experience this lovely pain with me so I threw the only thing I could reach at his head...a wet washcloth. That finally snapped him awake because me screaming in pain or screaming his name had no effect on waking him up.

So, finally around 9am they decide to prep for delivery and have me start pushing. It took me around 10 minutes to push Lily and Ella out so that is what I was prepared for. Little did I know what the next hour and fifteen minutes would be like for me.

Even writing this out, it all seems so...trivial...or small...or just another experience. This whole experience was so hard, so many little complications, such a long process, such a lonely process it is hard for me to even write about it.

So, they bring in a doctor to deliver me that I had never met because my doctor left 30 minutes before and wasn't coming back. Awesome.

They get me all prepped, I am feeling an incredible amount of pain and had no pain meds helping me out at this point. He was still high and sunny side up. 30 minutes later we had made little progress. He was coming, slowly but surely and I was losing any energy I had left and started weeping between contractions that I was so exhausted. I kept praying constantly hoping for some divine help to push that baby out because I wasn't sure I had enough left in me to get him out on my own.

Another ten minutes. Small progress made.  At this point they bring out "the bar" (picture an ancient torture device) and reconfigure my bed. Now I am supposed to pull my body up on this bar supporting my whole weight, squat and push this baby out. Getting my body into that position was excruciating. And, then they kept trying to make me sit back between contractions. Just rearranging my position was so exhausting I had nothing left to give to push. Finally I started to feel him come out a tiny bit. At this point I had been pushing for an hour. The nurse tried to make me sit back and I started screaming at her. I had reached my limit. I was going to stay in that position until that baby was on the outside, even if it killed me. And, to be honest I felt like that was a distinct possibility at that point.

I have never felt such anguish, such pain, such pressure. I was determined to stay there until he came out. And finally at 10:13am he came out...39 hours and 13 minutes after we started this labor. I was shaking so bad I couldn't even think, comprehend that he was here. I just felt so defeated and exhausted and........I don't even know what. Shock.

The Dr said afterward that I looked surprised that I actually got him out. To be honest..I was surprised that I survived and that the baby was on the outside.

It took me hours and hours to stop shaking.

Are we ready for a new baby!

My cute girls on Valentine's Day even though they were both sick. We got fun books, candy, and our friend Melissa brought them cute heart bows for their hair.

Phew...I am all caught up for now! I had to do some catch up so I will be ready to post some cute pictures of my new little man in 2 days!

Random thoughts---

Every time we pray we tell Lily to bless Preston and she always finishes with "Bless Preston to come out" .

When we were praying for Preston to turn we would tell her please bless Preston to turn and she would respond with "Bless Baby Preston to turn....back into baby Preston."

At church a week and a half ago there was a little 4 year old boy sitting across the aisle from me.
He turns to his Dad--"Why is that lady SOOO fat?"
Dad tries to shoosh him
"No, seriously Dad, why is she SOOOO fat?"
Dad tries whispering to him....little boy quiet for a minute
"But Dad, don't you think even after that baby comes out she is still going to be SOOOOO fat?"
You have to love the innocence of children. So, there you have it ladies and gentlemen...I am SOOO fat!

Ella loves coming up with her toy stethoscope and checking on the baby. So adorable.

Lily is very excited that Preston's car seat faces hers so he will be able to see her.

The other morning it was like 6am and I could hear the girls in their room awake but just playing for a few minutes so I did not get out of bed yet. All of a sudden I hear Lily severely distressed---"MOM, PLEASE COME TELL US GOOD MORNING! PLEASE! MOM COME TELL US GOOD MORNING!" So funny.

It is Wednesday night right now. We are headed to the hospital Friday night. I don't know if I remember being this miserable at the end with the other two. I am a lot larger than I was with the other two and I think this baby will be my biggest. I cannot sleep, have severe heartburn, severe charlie horses in my legs and toes, and am just 1000% uncomfortable. I am convinced Heavenly Father makes you so miserable that you think labor, delivery, and a newborn sound better than being pregnant!

Let's hope all goes well and Preston comes out nicely!

The Happenings

Lily with her sunglasses on upside down looking cool!

There was some snow in January and Rob was determined to go play in it. One Saturday we took a coworkers advice and drove up a road trying to find a place to play and subsequently got stuck for 2 hours and had to have many helpful strangers help pull, push, dig us out. After we FINALLY got the van unstuck we drove back down and played on the side of the road for a few minutes!

Cute girls singing.

Lily had a little program at her preschool.
